Mena Cargo News
The Middle East has been the crossroads of the great trade routes from East to West since time immemorial. Dubai, with the advent of the Dubai World Central – Jebel Ali nexus has staked its claim as the premier transfer point for sea and air freight from resource rich Africa to the markets of Europe and the newly industrialised economies of the Indian subcontinent and the Far East.
Increasingly as oil wealth drives industrial development in the region the Middle East and the GCC states have become destinations in themselves for all manner of raw materials and trade goods whether it be bauxite from Brazil or consumer goods from North Asia.
The UAE has taken the port and free zone concept and developed a model that is the gold standard throughout the world and is now looking to create the ultimate port and free zone – KIZAD. But don’t discount the Saudis who are investing hundreds of billions of dollars in industrial developments such as the massive King Abdullah Economic City. Meanwhile Qatar is racing the clock to put in the freight and transport infrastructure it needs starting with the multi-billion dollar New Doha Port project. At the same time all six GCC states are banding together to create from scratch a rail network that will stretch from Jeddah to Manama and Kuwait City to Muscat.
Al Hilal Group has been monitoring and covering these game changing developments over the past 35 years in our market leading trade magazines, most notably Shipping & Transport News, which has been upgraded and enhanced to become MENA Cargo News, the first dedicated pan Arab freight and transport magazine. Each month we bring you the latest news, analysis and insight into air, road, rail and maritime freight; ports and freezones; customs and laws; technology and policies from the Gulf, the Mediterranean, the Red Sea and the Indian Ocean in one accessible print and online magazine.
